Buddy Poppy and Memorial Day Events
VFW Post 4031 goes all out for Memorial Day. The events start with the annual Buddy Poppy sales at various locations. The VFW and volunteers place flags at the graves of fallen veterans at La Plata County Cemeteries. The Durango Silverton Railroad, one of the Post's Sponsors, offered 100 veterans a free ride on the train to Silverton and then provided a lunch. On Memorial Day there are three Remembrances. The first is at the Vietnam Memorial in Iris Park, the second is at Greenmount Cemetery, and the third is a Remembrance for those lost at sea on the bridge behind Rotary Park.
