As yesterday's defenders of freedom, we, at VFW Post 4031, want to welcome today's military service members into our ranks and become part of our elite group.  Our common bond is the battlefield, whether it is service in the Persian Gulf, Vietnam, Korea, Kosovo, the war on terrorism or peace-keeping expeditionary campaigns. Your courage and sacrifice have made a difference in preserving and defending world peace. We are dedicated to support of our most important National Asset.... our veterans. Please join us and contribute to our efforts to support our local veterans and their families. We are Veterans helping Veterans.

Have a meaningful Memorial Day 2026


I have been asked often if it is acceptable to say Happy Memorial Day... which can be a difficult question to answer.  Every day should be a happy day so it stands to reason one would say Happy Memorial Day; however, this year I have chosen to implement Have a meaning Memorial Day.


With that thought in mind, it is important to remember the meaning behind this day.  In my mind, remembering the meaning of this day is more important than how to acknowledge the day.


As we gather this Memorial Day, we pause to honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our nation.  Their sacrifices secured the freedoms we enjoy each day and will never be forgotten.  We remember not only their courage, but also the families and loved ones who continue to carry their memory forward.


From all of us at Durango Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 4031, may we reflect with gratitude, humility and unwavering respect for our fallen heroes. 


May we all have a very meaningful Memorial Day.

National VFW Mission Statement

That the purpose of this Corporation shall be fraternal, patriotic, historical, charitable, and educational; to preserve and strengthen comradeship among its members; to assist worthy comrades; to perpetuate the memory and history of our dead; and to assist their widows and orphans; to maintain true allegiance to the Government of the United States of America, and fidelity to its Constitution and laws; to foster true patriotism; to maintain and extend the institutions of American freedom, and to preserve and defend the United States from all her enemies.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States is a nonprofit veteran service organization comprised of eligible veterans and military service members from the active, guard, and reserve forces. The mission of the VFW is to foster camaraderie among United States veterans of overseas conflicts; to serve our veterans, the military and our community: and to advocate on behalf of all veterans.
