Shirley Darlene Kraschel McInnis & Jordan Hugh McInnis Jr. (Mac) Obituary
In Loving Memory
Shirley Darlene Kraschel McInnis departed this life on November 16, 2022, in Durango Colorado. She was born September 6, 1933, in Delano, California. Shirley attended the University of Southern California's nursing program, where she met her future husband Mac in 1956. After receiving her certification Shirley worked as a registered nurse and married Mac on July 27, 1957. They were married in Bakersfield California, where Shirley's parents lived at the time. Although she may not have referred to herself as such, Shirley was an amazing artist. She especially had a love for drawing and photography.
Jordan Hugh McInnis departed this life on July 10, 2023, in Durango Colorado. He was born July 5, 1930, in Vicksburg Mississippi. After high school Mac earned an undergraduate scholarship to Harvard University during which he also served in the United States CoastguardKorean War, from 1951 to 1954. After graduating from Harvard in 1952, Mac enrolled at the University of Southern California to earn his masters in electrical engineering, where he met Shirley. He proposed to her after only a few short months but agreed to postpone marriage until she graduated, becoming a certified nurse. Mac would often say he knew right away Shirley was the love of his life and the most beautiful woman he'd ever seen. After Mac finished his MSEE degree he changed employers and worked for the System Development Corporation, a firm performing contract work for the U.S. Air Force. In 1962, Mac and Shirley moved to Germany for one year, where Mac represented his company's engineering department installing new air defense equipment. While acclimating to life in Germany, Shirley became an accomplished seamstress. On their way home, they took the trip of a lifetime traveling through Africa and Asia. When they arrived back in the U.S., they welcomed their first child (and son), Gordon. A year and a half later they welcomed their daughter, Karyl.
In 1968 Mac began work for Nasa's Jet Propulsion Lab in Pasadena. Five years later he and Shirley purchased a small business they ran together for 12 years. They retired in 1985 in beautiful Durango, Colorado-one of the best decisions they ever made. Mac and Shirley were an integral part of their community, as volunteers, members of the Kiwanis Club and Friends of the Library. They were both also extremely passionate about genealogy and dedicated over 15 years as volunteer librarians at the local Genealogy library. Their family eventually followed them to Colorado and still call Durango home. Mac and Shirley's greatest joy came from all the love they gave and were given, especially as parents, grandparents, great grandparents and from their four-legged friends. They are survived by their son Gordon McInnis, daughter Karyl Horenn and her husband Robert Horenn, their grandchildren Karly Horenn, Connor Horenn, Jenna Horenn, Kira Horenn-Goetz, her husband Beau Horenn-Goetz as well as their children (great-grandchildren) Klein and Charlee Horenn-Goetz.
