Teamwork ~ Leadership ~ Commitment. Veterans Helping Veterans.
As yesterday's defenders of freedom, we, at VFW Post 4031, want to welcome today's military service members into our ranks and become part of our elite group.  Our common bond is the battlefield, whether it is service in the Persian Gulf, Vietnam, Korea, Kosovo, the war on terrorism or peace-keeping expeditionary campaigns. Your courage and sacrifice have made a difference in preserving and defending world peace. We are dedicated to support of our most important National Asset.... our veterans. Please join us and contribute to our efforts to support our local veterans and their families. We are Veterans helping Veterans.

We know how to heat up a kitchen with a variety of smoked meats and sausage. We are known for the must-have smoked turkey which pairs nicely with the homemade cranberry habanero salsa, or our award winning pulled pork sandwich with our fruity, fiery cherry-chipotle salsa or our tender beef brisket you can't help but sink your teeth into... all of which are smoked to perfection!

VFW Post 4031 Plans a Great Memorial Day

Memorial Day is probably the single most important day on the VFW calendar. The days prior to Memorial Day are full of events for every family so that they may come to know and understand the solemn reason behind Memorial Day, the remembrance of all those who have died for our country.

May 25th and 26th: VFW conducts its annual Buddy Poppy Drive at various locations throughout La Plata County. Pick up your Poppy and wear it proudly all Memorial Day weekend.

May 24th, 25th, 26th, and 27th: Healing Fields at Santa Rita Park. The Blue Star Mothers put up hundreds of US Flags and dog tags at Santa Rita Park. On the 24th there is an Opening Ceremony at 8:30 PM followed by a Lighting Ceremony at 9:00 PM. There is a Closing Ceremony on the 27th at 4:00 PM.

May 25th: Iron Horse Classic Veterans Train Ride to Silverton at 8:00 PM. The train is full. The VFW and other service organizations will be placing flags on Veterans Graves at Greenmount Cemetery. If you would like to help, meet at the Legion Memorial in Greenmount Cemetery at 10:00 AM.

Memorial Day, May 27th: The 27th is a very busy day for the VFW. The events start with the placement of US Flags along Main Street at 6:00 AM. The VFW will set the flag at the VFW at half mast at 8:00. At 10:00 there is Vietnam Veterans Remembrance Ceremony at Iris Park lead by the Vietnam Era Veterans Association. At 11:00 there is a Remembrance Ceremony at Greenmount Cemetery. At 12:00 PM, the VFW raises the flag at the VFW back up to full staff followed by a Lost At Sea Remembrance Ceremony and wreath throwing on the bridge behind Rotary Park. Between 12:00 PM until 3:00 PM, the VFW holds an Open House at the VFW Post. Food will be served in a traditional Memorial Day Cookout fashion. At 6:00 PM the VFW takes down the flags along Main Street. Click on the thumbnails below to see the full sized versions of  the Buddy Poppy and memorial Day Flyers.

Meal Train for the Copelands
Margaret is having shoulder surgery and will be out of commission for at least 4 weeks. They need easy reheat meals or things that will not need too much preparation on their part. They are a very social couple and being shut in with extra medical will be very hard on them. Your time and socialization will help ease the stress for both Margaret and Eric.

Please take the time to review and help Margaret and Eric Copeland while Margaret recovers from surgery this summer.

Simply scroll to the calendar and pick a date you would like to help with a meal

A satirical reflection by Author/Artist Phil Fehrenbacher

Phil enlisted in the Army in 1965 where you served for years in Vietnam.  He became a graphic designer and has worked for the state of Oregon for 26 years.  He retired in 2003 and started the Cartoon "In-Country".  The cartoons reflect his experiences during his tour of duty in South Vietnam.

There is a new cartoon everyday.

Join us as brothers and sisters of America to preserve the rights of veterans and support each other as only those who share in the camaraderie forged by conflict can.

Our programs support our service members while they are on the front line, as they are being discharged and long after they return. Your tax-deductible donation will be immediately directed to the VFW programs where your support is most urgently needed.
